Course Overview
Skills developed include:
- Conducting prestart and start-up checks before commencing operations
- Interpreting work instructions
- Establishing the weight of the load and ensuring it is within the safe operational limits of the machine
- Driving and manoeuvring the vehicle
- Techniques to suit different work conditions
- Selecting, removing, fitting and using excavator attachments
- Moving the excavator safely within and/or between work areas
- Cleaning up after operations

About this course
Application
Jurisdiction: This is a nationally recognised qualification that qualifies you to safely operate a dozer and can be used when applying for jobs in the civil construction and resources sector.
Licence: You do not need a specific license to operate an excavator. However, where a certificate is no longer required for earth-moving activities, the PCBU has a primary duty of care duty under the Act to ensure that workers are trained and competent to do this work safely; this unit can and may be used to satisfy some of the requirements.
